Quilted Indigo Patchwork Wall Hanging

All my pieces are one of a kind. I work exclusively with second-hand fabrics, which means I never know exactly what materials I’ll find from month to month. This results in unexpected fabrics, colours, compositions, and moods, with each piece developing its own character. Each indigo patchwork wall hanging is made with a machine pieced patchwork top, thin batting, and a backing fabric. The layers are hand quilted together, and a fabric sleeve is added to the back so the piece can be hung using a dowel or similar support. The dowel is not included.

 

I design my work with longevity in mind. These pieces are made to be durable, to be used, and to be cared for over time rather than replaced. If needed, they can be mended or repaired, and each piece comes with a small selection of fabric scraps from its making, along with detailed care instructions, to support future maintenance.

All of my naturally dyed items are mordanted and tanned for the best color fastness, but plant-dyed fabrics are inherently less colour- and light-fast than their chemically dyed counterparts. The luminous quality of these colours (and their gradual evolution over time) is part of what makes naturally dyed textiles unique. Any subtle fading that may occur does not compromise the integrity of the piece and should be seen as a natural continuation of its life. To help preserve colour intensity, keep naturally dyed wall hangings out of direct sunlight. If cleaning is required, hand wash gently in cool water using a mild detergent, then air dry.
