This abstract denim wall hanging is made with an improvised piecing technique, relying on existing pieces of fabric to guide the composition. The mix of straight edges and softer curves gives the piece a bit of balance. The appliqué circles are made with naturally dyed shibori fabric. I dye the fabric in my studio using an organic fructose vat. It produces a range of indigo tones, from lighter blues to deeper shades. Shibori is a traditional Japanese resist dyeing technique used to create patterns on fabric. The cloth is folded, twisted, stitched, or bound before dyeing so that certain areas resist the dye, forming controlled patterns. The result is a range of geometric or organic designs, often with soft edges and slight variation, depending on how the fabric is handled.

The size makes it easy to place in a living area, workspace, or on a narrower wall where you want to add definition and warmth. It integrates wall into the space, whether on its own or alongside other pieces, adding texture and structure without crowding the wall. It remains balanced next to furniture and other objects.
