Each piece I make is unique, born from the unpredictable array of secondhand fabrics I find, which varies monthly and results in unique fabrics, colors, compositions, and moods. The wall quilt features a pieced patchwork top, thin batting, and a neutral backing fabric, all meticulously hand-quilted together. A sleeve is hand-sewn to the back for easy hanging with a dowel, though please note, the dowel or similar device is not included.
The plant-dyeing process ensures each color is distinctive, contributing to a one-of-a-kind color palette.
The palette includes:
- Yellow/brown: Dyed with onion skins and acorns.
- Terracotta/peach: Created using avocado pits and skins.
- Purple/light gray: Colored with black beans.
- Marbled dark grey: Acorns altered with iron.
- Blue: Derived from natural indigo.
Every step, from dyeing and cutting to piecing and quilting, is performed by hand in my studio, transforming unloved fabrics into cherished new treasures.
