Naturally Dyed
Most of the white, 100% cotton or linen, pieces of fabric that are sourced are naturally dyed. Natural dyes, derived from plants, minerals, insects, and lichens have been used for centuries to dye textiles. The use of natural dyes continues to be celebrated for its beauty, sustainability, and connection to local traditions. Natural dyes often yield colors that are more vibrant, subtle, and nuanced than their synthetic counterparts. The variations in color can add depth and character to textiles, creating a unique appeal – it`s challenging to get the exact same color twice. There is a diverse range of natural dyes used around the world, each with its own cultural and historical significance. Most of the dyestuff used in our pieces is grown or sustainably foraged right here in Spain. This mountainous region outside of Madrid, has been traditionally revered for it`s natural colors for centuries. Through our pieces you are literally getting a tiny bit of the Mediterranean
Upcycled Textiles
All of the fabric used in our creations are second - hand. It`s to much discarded fabric in circulation already, there is no need to produce more in order to create great textile products. As I never know what might come my way from month to month, there is a certain excitement tied to the practice of making these pieces. It is also a challenge that encourages taking chances, unusual color palettes, and interesting composition. The textiles are sourced mostly from friends and family, and occasionally second-hand markets. I usually stay clear of thrift shops, as their clothing is curated and still absolutely wearable. It is important that the textiles I use are really on their last thread. Patchwork is my natural technique of choice, as I can cut away the weak and broken pieces and use the good parts to create beautiful pieces for you and your home.
